When I was searching for a place to stay I wanted a hot tub, and for it to be a whole house. It showed up as a whole house but in the description it does clearly say in a few places that it’s a main floor and basement. Overall I’m still very happy with my stay and would consider staying here again if I’m ever in Calgary.

The place would have been better if it was quieter. Only searched whole house listings so not sure why this was included as it was the 3 bottom floors of a split level house with the top floors being another unit. The noise was annoying. Every foot step, toilet flush, and conversation could be heard. Was woken up early a few times. Only times we weren't were because we woke up first. The hot tub power was turned off at 945pm each night. I understand noise can be an issue but that felt like overkill. Also the camera above the hot tub was a little unsettling. Overall the stay was decent. Had an issue with the hot tub water quality but Mark was extremely responsive and helpful to remedy the situation as quickly as possible. The place was clean and had a lot of fun stuff to do. Great host but the stay was a bit frustrating with amount of noise from above. Wouldn't stay here again.

Over-priced to essentially stay in someone’s basement
Positive: Good location, near to airport and city
Negative: We were very disappointed in this accommodation as we felt that the information provided on booking.com that it was a ‘whole home’ didn’t accurately represent the fact that it’s actually part of the ground floor (kitchen and dining area) and the basement, of a two-storey house.
The occupants of the rest of the house had full use of the double driveway, so essentially none of the property that can be seen from the road can be accessed by guests of this accommodation.
We were kept up at night and then woken up at 4 or 5am every morning by the noise of the occupants in the main house above. The main house occupants also came into the garden, which was supposed to be part of this guest accommodation, during our stay.
It’s not possible to control the temperature in the accommodation as the thermostat is in a locked box, so we spent the first two days cold and then suddenly late on the third evening the heating was turned on until it was so hot that we had to call the property’s contact number to get it turned down.
We also had to request for the hot tub to be cleaned as it was dirty on our arrival (with brown gunk round the edges and white scum floating on the surface, not just debris from the tree above as the property owner claimed when they came to clean it).
I would not have booked this accommodation had the real set up of the property been apparent from the information on booking.com, and our disappointment has been compounded by the additional issues faced during our stay.
We raised these issues with the owner at the time, but they don’t acknowledge any of them as a problem, so hopefully this review will enable others to be fully informed before they book.
Sara, Casa Pura Vida is the lower legal suite, of two, in this spacious 5-level split house. As such, it is a 'whole home'. In order to avoid conflicts between guests we ask that guests in Casa Pura Vida park on the street close to the house. Given that Casa Pura Vida is ~33% larger than the upper suite, 'Il Veneto', the 'main house' as you choose to describe it, is actually the suite that you stayed in. As there are two separate heating systems in the house, we prefer to manage the temperature for our guests to avoid any conflicting situations. We adjust as required to suit the guests' preferences. We did not receive any communication from you about the temperature. When you complained about the hot tub, I arrived within 10 minutes. I did find one 6 inch section around the air -water interface where there was a bit of residue. I cleaned the entire perimeter again and removed anything that had fallen into the tub from the surrounding trees. I hope that sets the record straight. Mark
Good stay - wish hot tub electric was on after 10pm…disappointed with only this honestly

Negative: The hot tub electric turned off at 10pm automatically making it out of use. I’m not sure what time people generally use a hot tub on holiday but after long days driving and hiking I guess not after 10pm!!
Hi Derek, Calgary Noise by-laws require quiet hours between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am. As posted, we turn off the hot tub at 9:45 pm in order to remind guests of this law as our neighbours insist on this being followed. I guess it shouldn't really surprise me that you would complain about us following the rules after barging into the wrong suite while our cleaners were hard at work long before check-in to deposit groceries in the wrong fridge. We do our best to respectfully accommodate all our guest requests within the context of the environment in which we operate. We would ask that our guests provide us the same courtesy. Mark

This property is exactly like the listing, and had all the things we needed to spend the week. The hot tub was definitely an added bonus, as the weather was quite cool. The location has all the amenities within a close proximity. The noise was an issue one night with the upstairs renters, but the hosts were very forthcoming with the fact that noise could potentially be an issue.
I would definitely recommend this property, and come back again. Thank you for hosting!

Place was as described. Nice location everything went smooth for check in and check out.
The home was spacious and clean. Mark was responsive when I sent a message. The extra amenities were a nice touch - sound machines, shower soaps, kitchen had the basics. The hot tub, pingpong/pool table, and games were great, even tho we didn't use them as much as I thought.
A few things to be mindful of - street parking, not necessarily right out front. There is an upstairs neighbour so noise can be expected.

The listing for this property did not mention that the unit is located in a BASEMENT. While the space itself was clean and accessible, our stay was significantly impacted by issues that were not disclosed.On the first night, the renters in the upper unit arrived around 10:00 p.m. Their children were running and hitting objects on the floor, and they were also doing laundry and running the dishwasher. All of the noise transferred directly into the basement unit, and we were unable to sleep that night.In addition, the garage door was damaged, and the upstairs renters continued to attempt to fix it by opening and closing it constantly. The sound of the garage door opening and closing was extremely loud and carried through the walls.Another major issue is that the thermostat is not located in the basement unit. The temperature is controlled from the upper unit, and it was extremely hot at night, with no way for us to adjust it.These conditions made the stay uncomfortable, and none of these issues were disclosed in the listing.
Large, open, clean spaces. Great assortment of appliances in working order, both small and large in the kitchen and elsewhere, including a hair blow dryer, portable fans, white nose machines in every room, TV's and electronics. Loved the pool table, ping pong table and especially the hot tub. Beds were comfortable and the rooms well furnished. There is a second floor unit that generates some noise through everyday activities, so you won't necessarily get complete quiet at times and one needs to carefullynavigate the snow and icy walkway conditions in the Alberta winter. A very comfortable home away from home. Mark was on top of every inquiry we had during our stay. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. ❤️

Positive: What a clean, spacious, and comfortable suite! All the beds were very comfortable, and the sheets/blankets were of excellent quality. Plenty of extra towels and blankets. The neighbourhood was quiet and safe. We didn’t hear a peep from the suite above/in front of us. The hot tub was in pristine condition, and such a great bonus at the end of the day. Positive: We had a very good stay! The property is perfectly located, making it easy to get around on foot. It was spotless on arrival, and the modern, well-equipped amenities made our stay very comfortable.
Negative: The only downsides were that the unit is in the basement and the upstairs tenants were occasionally noisy. We also had a small issue with the AC, but it was resolved extremely quickly.

Great location for our family trip. Everything was in good working order. The first few days the upstairs neighbours were extremely noisy overnight…like all through the night. But they moved in after a few days and then it was quite peaceful.
Sorry, you lost sleep. We have since installed Minut noise devices and clearly laid out Calgary noise by-law rules. We will keep trying to improve on this issue for the enjoyment of all our guests. Mark
The place was as described and the kids had a fantastic time with the hot tub and pool table. There was plenty to do and enough space for our family of 6. The hot tub could use a cleaning though, and the listing didn't mention there being another unit above that is occupied - there were a few mornings the residents upstairs were moving furniture and vacuuming at 5am!
Had a blast staying in Mark’s beautiful home! When we first walked into the place everything was clean and spotless. They had a hot tub, pool/ ping pong table, board games and video games which made our stay filled with fun and excitement! Not to mention they had everything provided in the kitchen from seasonings to other appliances which made preparing meals so much easier. I definitely recommend it to group of friends or family for a little fun getaway!

We had a great 3-night stay! The place was very clean, comfortable, and exactly as described. The host was very responsive and helpful throughout. The pantry was well-stocked with spices, which made cooking super convenient. We really enjoyed the hot tub – perfect for relaxing. The ping pong and table tennis were a fun bonus, and there were plenty of things to do around the property to keep us entertained. Would definitely recommend and love to come back!

The place was advertised as a private home with three bedrooms and amenities and it failed to mention that one house was divided to create two units and we were left to live in the back of the house that is primarily a basement unit with all three bedrooms below the ground. There was another guest family living in the main floor. We would have never booked this place had we known we were going to be sharing the property and sleeping in a basement.Furthermore, on the day of arrival we were asked not to park our cars in the driveway but on the side of the road, contrary to promised parking on premises ( which was provided to the other guest). Due to the group of people living upstairs there were constant thumping sounds in the morning. The inability to control the thermostat due to it being on the main floor (separate unit) , also made one of nights unbearable as it was 27c inside. We found the hot tub was not properly cleaned as it should have been after each guest.
Great place, lots for my kids to do in the basement. Clean and comfortable. The adults enjoyed the hot tub.

First of all, the location is in a safe and good neighbourhood. The house was as described. Make sure you double check the settings when you arrive because the fridge was at 5 (the coldest) and the gas for the bbq was already on as some examples. And don’t ask any questions while you’re there because you might get very unprofessional answers. I just asked simple questions like how things worked because there were different from home and the owner called me useless and hopeless. He was very rude and unprofessional making you feel very stupid and not wanting to come back and stay there again. I know that I will never stay there again!!!
Overall it was good fun we enjoyed a lot. Want to stay again, if AC, BBQ and price will be good.

We are from New England and came here for 4 nights between my 9 year old daughter’s hockey tournaments in Edmonton. It was a perfect location, close to downtown but quiet, and only an hour from Banff. The house is impeccably clean and the kids loved the game area. The owners made it so easy to find everything and left clear instructions. Would absolutely stay here again.
Our stay was great. Lots of room for up to 8 people. Only thing we didn't have was extra garbage bags. Mark was very responsive when I let him know. No other complaints or issues. Thanks!

We really enjoyed staying here. Our kids loved the game room with the ping-pong and pool table, wii and board games. It was nice to have a separate room for them to hang out. We also enjoyed the hot tub. The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms were dark. The baseboards were pretty dusty but other than that things felt clean. The kitchen was well stocked. We would absolutely stay here again.

Mark's place was nice, peaceful, and clean. Using the tub in the snow was a great pleasure. We enjoyed our stay. I just want to mention a few things the hosts can add to make the place perfect:
- In the kitchen: coffee cream, turmeric, whiskey glass.
- In the game room (-3rd floor):
*We tried using Wii but tbh it's too old and outdate tech. Consider replacing it with newer versions or other consoles. *The stereo system is old and does not support Bluetooth or any other type of wireless connection. So, we couldn't connect our phones to play music through the speakers. Consider adding Bluetooth speakers or replacing the stereo system with a modern one that supports it. A nice place like that deserves a home theatre system.
* Having a mop and a broom or vacuum cleaner in the house will come in handy, too.
* We could not light the fireplace. Tried the light switch near it but didn't work.
Aside from these small things, we had everything else we needed and enjoyed our time there.
Thanks for your detailed critique. We always find these useful in improving our guest experience. Guests can certainly bring their own cream or other perishable items if they wish. We supply rudimentary items for the kitchen such as coffee, tea, sugar, salt. We also have spices on hand. We can tumeric. The description of our games room is quite concise. All the items work well together. We have a broom and dust pan in both suites available at all times. For longer guest who are planning to stay longer, we provide additional cleaning facilities. We were not anticipating that you would include cleaning as one of your activities during your two night stay. The pilot light had gone out in the gas fireplace; literally a 30 second fix. When I was at the suite shovelling snow, I offered to fix it but you declined. So it's strange that you should point that out in the review.
Mark was very friendly and responsive. the unit was very well equipped with dishes, flatware, glasses and an assortment of pots, pans and Tupperware. There was also a good amount of linens.

Just needed a place to stay for the night with my friends and it was a great time. Enough beds for all of us and very clean. Only complaint was the hot tub was set to 91° so it was pretty cold
Thanks Conner! Glad you liked out suite. We monitor the hot tub every week to make sure everything is in order. Should the temperature in the tub dip for some reason, the controls are readily accessible and can be adjusted. Alternatively, one text or call and we can be on-site in 10 minutes, at least between 7 and 22:00.

First of all clean, cozy and tastefully done .
Secondly, The house has a lot of different types to spend time. Toys for kids, plays for adults.
And finally really good and quiet neighbourhood .
My son said- that was the best experience of his life)

Mark was fantastic. I think I have higher standards than most and couldn’t tell from the pictures how aged the carpets would be. I was a little uncomfortable but I don’t think most people would be. Next time I’ll be more choosy. The place was clean and quiet and useful but not luxurious by any means.

It appears that the upstairs was also used as an air bnb … those tenants had small children that were very loud and disruptive… stomping and running around at late hours after midnight … not the hosts fault at all however would have been good info to know ahead of time as we had seniors staying with us as well and they would have preferred a more quiet and peaceful stay … the place itself was fantastic… has great things for my children to keep entertained like a switch and a wii as well as a combo pool and ping pong table !!! They loved that !!! Overall a great place to stay !!

This is the bottom of a house through the back door, and this booking is for the basement 3 levels. Wish I had known that before booking.
Yes Atinder, the lower suite is a very spacious and comfortable 170 square metre space on three levels. We have now added a pool / ping pong table for the enjoyment of our guests. We look forward to hosting you again when you are next in Calgary.
Clean and spacious, well equipped. Easy check in, satisfied. Upstairs tenants loud till very late couple nights.

We stayed in the lower suite for nearly 4 weeks and it was the perfect space for our family! We loved the spacious and well-equipped kitchen. Our kids loved the lower basement and enjoyed the Nintendo Wii and various provided games. The suite is spacious and we appreciated the dark and cool lower level bedrooms, especially on warm nights. We were able to host our family with ease thanks to the BBQ, large kitchen and outdoor patio!
Would highly recommend this place to any families looking for a safe and spacious place in NW Calgary!

Mark was a great host to deal with, very helpful, reasonable and responsive. There were a few issues during our stay. One was the tenant noise the other was the wifi and TV didn’t work. No major issues and the minor issues were dealt with very professionally and communication was excellent. Would stay here again, the kids loved the games room with the Wii!
